University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Founded in 2010 (formerly Saint David’s College, Lampeter which was founded in 1822), the University of Wales Trinity Saint David is a relatively new University, currently home to around 17,000 students. The University has three campuses across south west Wales – in Carmarthen, Lampeter and Swansea.

The University was the first in the UK to place sustainable development at its core, and is known for its tradition of research in humanities.
Ffion Cumberpatch, a Senior Lecturer and Program Manager at the University has been using Vevox for around 4 years. She explained why Vevox helps to increase student engagement while also underlining the importance a student response system has in helping students pay attention during class.

Why does Ffion use Vevox?
Ffion has been working in Higher Education for around four years across different courses – she currently looks after a level 4 course at the University of around 400 plus students. Many of the students she teachers are adult learners who have been out of education for long periods of time – therefore meaning coming back into education can be difficult and remaining focused for long periods of time during lectures can be a struggle.
Ffion first became aware of Vevox when she was searching for a way to engage her students more, while also getting feedback & allowing students more opportunities to ask questions and make suggestions. It was while looking for a suitable tool that she became aware that the University had a Vevox license that she had access to use.
She first started using Vevox as a recap tool – asking questions to students as a knowledge check, to find out what they had remembered from previous sessions.
The students really liked using Vevox and loved the leaderboard

Gaining real-time feedback was another important element for Ffion and Vevox allowed her to collect feedback from students when trying new things during class – and Ffion says that the anonymity was really important for this, as it allowed students the space to contribute with honesty.
Ffion also uses the Q&A in Vevox – putting the QR code up on the screen at the start of every session, allowing students to begin populating the Q&A with questions & comments right from the off.

"I really like the AI quiz generator. I mainly use it to help me create some recap questions, and then go in and edit them to make them precisely relevant to the topic I want them to be on."
Does Vevox increase student engagement?
Ffion says that using Vevox has "increased engagement massively" – with an example of this being her having a 100% response rate when asking students for feedback through Vevox.
She also feels that Vevox helps hugely to increase engagement amongst students who have conditions such as ADHD:
"They may struggle to focus during the session, but they’ll engage with the Vevox quiz because they’re motivated to be at the top of the leaderboard."
