Voice 21

Launched in 2015, Voice 21 is the UK’s oracy education charity – the charity campaigns for oracy to have a higher status in the United Kingdom’s education system and they aim to transform young people’s learning and life chances by working directly with schools across the country.

Emma-Jane Brazier is the Events and Engagement Lead at Voice 21, responsible for planning and delivering their two flagship events: The Speaking Summit (their externally targeted event) and the Great Oracy Exhibition, which is Voice 21’s flagship event for their members, which is held in October every year.

Emma-Jane has been using Vevox since 2018 and explained to us why she values Vevox so highly as an audience engagement tool for conferences and events.

Vevox definitely helps to increase engagement.

How do Voice 21 use Vevox?

The main Vevox feature that Voice 21 use at their events is live polling, which they have used as a comparison tool during some sessions. At their flagship Speaking Summit, they had a question as the title of every session (aside from the keynote), and as delegates entered the room the question and Vevox QR code would be up on the screen, encouraging people to scan and immediately get involved and engaged. For this they would either use a word cloud poll, multiple choice or a percentage poll.

It’s really interesting to receive live feedback results during sessions

Custom branding

Emma-Jane really appreciates the ability to customize and brand Vevox in the backend with relevant logos & colours that are personal to the organisation.

Variety of polling types

The vast array of polling types is a much-loved element of Vevox, and Emma-Jane particularly likes the pin on image poll – she uses this when asking people where they are based as she can use an image of a map, and attendees can pin where they are.

The general usability of Vevox is great, always a very smooth experience

Simple data extraction

For Emma-Jane, the ability to see & download analytics from previous sessions is really important, and Vevox allows her to easily extract data with minimal fuss.

The analytics are brilliant & really useful to see and extract

Has Vevox led to an increase in engagement?

According to Emma-Jane, the answer is a resounding yes:

Vevox definitely helps to increase engagement. The summit brings together lots of different people with different ideas & opinions – in one session which was around 150 people, 120 people took part in the session and contributed to the polls, so there was really high engagement throughout.

Emma-Jane also mentioned the importance of anonymity…

The anonymity was really important and definitely helped people to feel confident to contribute.

Emma-Jane’s Vevox top-tip!

This top-tip is an important one for those who use the Vevox PowerPoint add-in!

Make sure to always clear results and re-save your polls after testing in the PowerPoint add-in – otherwise when you go to run them in your actual session, they won’t run!
